I am 13, i weigh 105 and i run the 40 yards 3 times. 1st trial; 4.44s 2nd; 4.41s 3rd 4.46. Im in 8th grade and on the JV football team. :( My coach said i have a amazingly fast time for my age. I squat 90 for reps and bench 70 for reps. currently I am kind of worried that if i lift weights i possibly might get slower like some people told me and i asked one of my coaches how to improve my time he told me "Kid, i dont know if you can possibly run it any faster then you can right now."

Yea, they use stop watches. How big of a different does it make?

Weight training will help in all aspect including speed. Although at age 13 you need to be super careful. Your body is still devoloping and doing a lot of weight training can damage your body and future development.

However some light weight work combined with continued running and sprint work will keep your speed up and improving.

NO it will not,,,,,

Muscles have a memory and to run faster you have to teach them to run faster,,,,, best way is to find a slightly downhill area, not an extreme grade, just a slight downhill area about 60 yards and just start running it full speed and walking back up to the starting point (running downhill of course) and working on this 20 to 30 reps a day,,,, work this for approximately 3-4 weeks then retest your time,,,, should find a difference,,,, GOOD LUCK

no way in hell ur 13 and running a 4.4, that's like a 13 year old on roids, that is injected in ur legs. Kid u'd be scouted by NFL teams already if u can run a 4.4 at 13, u must be crazy, or on steriods

yes muscle equals speed and endurance look at how big the nfl guys are and how fast they are....it takes a lot of talent but a lot of athletes are capable of having both. You have the talent with your speed get big and strong and stay quick and fast with the drills the coaches show you

you're way too young for power lifting. if i were to go back, i wouldn't start lifting until my sophomore year. don't worry about being behind the other kids in size and strength. at that age, you make explosive gains and will catch up in no time.

early weight lifting only increases your chances of injuring yourself while playing.
