Sherman M4A3.

In later years, the Israelis inherited a bunch of Shermans, mounted a 105mm gun on them and welded a counterweight on the back of the turrent. They were called Ishermans. They would leave the brakes off when firing to allow the entire tank to take the recoil of the gun.

Sherman Was not a great tank but was easy to repair and great numbers were built. Quantity has it's own quality.

Do you have a link? If I can see the photo(s) in question, I can probably ID it for you. I'm guessing it was the 80cm Gustav, the largest railgun built. Originally designed to demolish the forts on the Maginot Line it was sent (painfully) to the USSR where it demolished Sevastopol. The photo above is a 24cm rr gun, similar to "Anzio Annie", which shelled troops from a rr tunnel 15 miles away from the Anzio beachhead. To correct a misapprehension, the Brits, French and US also had RR guns. The British ones were reserved for coastal defense, as were the American ones. The French pieces never really got into action, due to the collapse of their command structure. BTW, "Big Bertha" was a 42cm siege mortar used in WW1 to destroy the Belgian forts at Liege. The "Paris Gun" was also a WW1 gun a modified naval rifle actually, that shelled Paris from almost 80 miles...
