im a freshman in high school and im in cross country, i was wondering, compared to other track and field freshman; how does a 5:20 mile compare? some sophmores on my team could run a 4:46 by the time there freshman year was over so i was wondering if my time is a good starting point for getting faster.

anything'll help

That's pretty good-- I mean our seniors last year were doing 16:45 for three miles (cross country) so if that's what you're bringing to the team your first year, that's pretty great! LOL I'd love to have you join my team! But to answer your question it's a great starting point, and once training begins you're only going to get faster-- coaches are going to teach you techniques on form, footing (spikes vs. shoes), and running in general-- plus you're still so young and you've got lots of time ahead of you. 4:46 is a great goal so work hard-- but be smart: know when to rest if you're hurt and when to suck it up-- I've seen lots of great athletes go down because they thought they were being tough and didn't rest when they should have-- Just remember your goal, work hard, and good luck!

thats a good mile no matter who you are, and as a freshman, you will grow a lot, or should this year too, or sometime around your age, so thatll help improve time alot
also, if youve never really worked on running before, and you got that time, i would hope you start running a lot more, because a raw time like that with no training is pretty good, and with training you could be excellent

Yeah 5:20 is an alright start point. Assuming that you havent really done much training in high school, that is.
If you train and do everything you can to stay healthy and maintain your goal to get better, you can definitley Lower your pr [personal record] down to 5:00 or better in your first year.

i'm a sophomore and let me tell you kid, if we had runners like that, people would actually go and watch. that time is great, however there is always something you can improve on, but don't ever let that hold you back from something you want to do. it sounds like you love running, so i say "GO AND RUN!!!" 5:20 for a freshy, thats good. keep up the good work.

You should probably be getting faster if you want to go somewhere with your running abilities. Pretty good tho.=)

thats a good time. set a goal time for yourself for you to complete. once you get it, you'll be happy than anyone else who just ran the same race you did, even if you dont win.
