In our family, there are plenty of names many might consider unique, at least in the states (certain traditional Irish names and spellings), but none that have been cause for teasing or anything like that. Certainly, you might be in for the occasional spelling or pronunciation correction, but it's really not that big a deal. Especially when you can respond to any inquiries by explaining that it is a real, properly-spelled name that happens to be uncommon at the moment.
If, on the other hand, someone was named some completely random concoction, and could only reply that "my mom took a bunch of sounds she thought were nice and called it my name," well then yes, I think the child -- and adult -- might be in for a lifetime of unnecessary put-downs and hassles.
It's one thing to be able to justify a great under-used name, and quite another to HAVE to, simply because you were given some horrid creation just for the sake of being "unique," know what I mean? In other words, I'll take an Emily over a La'shuquintAlly (just making up something ridiculous so as not to offend LOL) any day, but I'd also love to see a real, but not-overly-common, name like Imogen or Harvey, rather than just another Emily or Jacob. ;)
Hope that helps! ;)

I'm named Zachariah but I go by Zack. It's a good name because I have all the fun of having a weird name while still having the option to go by something normal. In my entire life I've only been made fun of a few times for my name but the name isn't what gets you made fun of, what gets people ridiculed is whether they're easy to ridicule or not and if they end up getting picked on then it doesn't matter what their name is they are still going to have it picked at. I know a kid named Ben and people make fun of his name all the time.

I have six siblings and only myself (Jenni) and my brother (Joshua) have "normal" names. My other siblings have really unique and fun names. I love that about them. My mom had very specific reasons for picking all of our names (I was named after my aunt Genesis), so it's special in one sense, but I always felt a little cheated since mine wasn't unique. My little sister's name is Josezette, and she was constantly called (Josezette the Lafourche Gazette ... which was a local newspaper). She's 21 now and goes by Joie. I guess it just depends! Kids can be cruel sometimes, so fun and unique is good but not completely off the wall!

My name is Reese (it's a family name). I've never actually met another Reese. I wasn't horribly "teased" in school. I received the obvious Reese's Pieces remarks, but I never went home crying because someone made fun of me (it wasn't like that).
Unique names are nice, but it doesn't make that person unique. I believe (in some cases) parents put more energy in choosing a name for their child instead of their plan to raise them. There's a little human being attached to that very unique or very common name. Good luck with your choices.

I dont have a unique name, but my husband does. His name is Kael (Kay-il, said like Cale or Kale). He said he was never made fun of, but he does get frustrated when people call him Kyle or Cal. He said when he was a kid he liked having a unique name. All the other Johns and Jasons and Georges had to deal with thinking of nicknames or being confused with another kid, but everyone remembered him. He's even getting frustrated now with the increasing popularity of Cale (for boys and girls) and Kaela. He said for the first time in his life, when he says his name people say things like "Oh! Thats my nephew's name!"
Along the same lines, my name is Kristen Ann, and in my grade when I was in elementary school there were 4 other girls with my exact first and middle name and another girl named Kristin Amanda. We were all always getting confused with the other, not to mention being mixed up with the Christinas, Christines, and Krystals. I was sick of being called "Kristen O." and thats why in high school, when someone told me I looked like an "Annie" I started using that nickname, just to separate myself from all the others. I would have loved to have a unique name or at least a traditional name that isnt commonly used like Evelyn or Jeanette, and I take it in to consideration when I try and think of my future kids' names.

If you still believe that Jesus was not a body manifestation of the very creator God, the word that formed the worlds made flesh, then you are still bound in a lack of revelation which is the central denial of the NWT rewrite; and the JW belief system. For it is not and was not the faith of the Apostles nor the plan of the only living God. God has laid aside all other names to set forth the Lord Jesus Christ; that at his name all things in earth below and heaven above should and will bow. For the first 300 years, until false doctrine defeated the true church; Christians were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord being his name under the title of Father; Jesus being his name under the title of Son; and Christ or Messiah being his name under the title of the Holy Ghost. Then as now, Jesus lives in his children; who are the believers and the true church in this ending hour.

My given name is uncommon but not a made-up or soap opera name.
I didn't get made fun of but no teacher could ever pronounce my name at the beginning of the school year. It made me hate the name for many years and wonder if I was a freak. To this day, I go by my second name.

my name's Brianne and though Brianne and Brianna are popular now, when i was in Grade School, i was the only Brianne in the school, which was both a blessing and a curse. I liked having individuality, but i hated having teachers (especially Substitutes) call me BRIAN. So, i'm all for unique names, as long as they're easy to pronounce. It's also good to have rare names that could have common nicknames.

My name is "unique" I guess..never met or heard of anyone with the same name as me....I never got picked on. Everyone said my name is pretty. Of course...they liked to argue with me that "Lee "is my middle name because my first name is Jara-Lee.....and I don't have a middle name. But people like my name, my suggestion would be if you give your baby a unique name do NOT put a hyphen in it...computer these days dont like to accept a hyphen in your name... -_- Good Luck!

My sisters name is Cohassett (co-hass-it) and she did get made fun of....She does not like her name... and I often have asked my mom why she chose that name and she always says because she liked it and always wanted to use it. I don't think she thought about what she was doing to my sister.... My sister still has 4 years left in school to deal with, and I feel bad for her!
My name is Jennifer so I know that is not unique....
