I agree, what's true tends to be what works best. The one real exception to that would be politics.

I am concerned with what works. Why?
Well, I live in the Bible belt and there are about 26 different Christian churches here ( in a town of 12,000) that all claim to have the market cornered on the "Truth". Obviously, there is no actual "absolute truth" when humans are left to interpret it.
Perhaps what is "real" and observable would be a better parameter? In that case, i would have to say that the truth and what works would be the same thing.....

Well, I'm not a pragmatist in the philosophical sense of the word, but things that are "true" tend to "work" as well.
So I would say, both.
