Between the Democrats and the Republicans, one is stupid and one is evil (though nobody can agree which is which). They are the parties that represent the special interest groups and Wall Street at the expense of the people.

The Libertarians are the pro-freedom party, though they are horribly mismanaged and increasingly willing to compromise with the anti-freedom crowd. They also are generally disinterested in foreign policy and monetary policy, which severely harms their chances as a party (because you cannot have freedom without a noninterventionist foreign policy and sound money).

The Greens are the party of Environmentalists (hippies). Therefore, they are anti-war, anti-economic freedom, and pro-civil liberties.

The Constitution Party is a paleo-conservative party. They strongly believe in following the original intent of the Constitution and want to repeal the 16th and 17th Amendments (IRS and direct election of senators).

Those are the 5 largest parties in the country. Among the big 2, there are only a few politicians who don't serve the special interests (Kucinich and Gravel are 2 on the Democrat side, Ron Paul is the main one on the Republican side).

Republicans want to take from the poor and give to the rich.
Democrats want to take from the rich and give to the poor.
All the others fall somewhere in between.

a. Radical: Seen as being on the far left of the political spectrum, radical wide-sweeping rapid change in the basic structure of the political, social and economic system. They may be willing to resort to extreme methods to get change, including some violence and revolution.
b. Liberal: liberals believe that the government should be actively involved in the promotion of social welfare of a nation's citizens. Liberals usually can stand gradual change within the existing political system. They reject violence as a way of changing the way things are, often called the status-quo.
c. Moderates: moderates may share viewpoints with both liberals and conservatives. They are seen as tolerant of other people's views, and they do not have views of their own. They advocate "go slow" or "wait and see" approaches to political change.
d. Conservatives:, people who hold conservative ideals favor keeping things as they are or maintaining the status-quo if it is what they desire. Conservatives are hesitant or cautious about adopting new policies, especially if they increase government activism in some way. They feel that less government is better. They agree with Jefferson's view that "the best governments govern least."
e. Reactionary: sitting on the far right of the ideological spectrum, reactionaries go back to the way things were- "good ol' days". Often reactionaries are willing to use extreme methods, such as repressive use of government force to achieve goals.

99% of Americans would be much better off with an extremely small government becasue our current government serves 1%.

Politicians spend most of their time rewarding their friends, punishing their enemies and making sure they get re-elected by any means necessary.

Democrats and Republicans list of friends are 95% identical becasue lobbyists are not partison.

The remaining 5% is the difference you are asking about.

In order to get elected democrats and republicans promise to give voters something for nothing, and they occasionally try to make a show when they do something especially for their "base"

Republicans lean toward subsidizing dominating groups: higher economic classes and majority groups (i.e. white, male, heterosexual, judeo-christian)

Democrats lean toward subsidizing submissive groups. lower economic classes, and minority groups including ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation.
