Well, heres the deal, i work for RadioShack which sells Att Phones, so i get an employee discounted monthly bill. Well, the only catch is that i have to provide my own phone. So i was checking it out, and retail price for a phone is $400+. So i thought shoot i might as well just get an Iphone, So i later found out that Corporate accounts will not work on the Iphone, So i have to unlock it, just to use my Att Corporate account. So I was assuming since all i needed was just the iphone, that i could walk in the store, pay my $430 and be on my way, well this was not the case, I had to have my credit run, even though i told the manager i didnt want any service put on it, and i would do that latter, so he says that will be a $500 deposit, And a $36 activation fee, on top of the $430, and i said, Im not getting service on the phone today. I said to him, i can walk into an apple store, and buy the Iphone with no problems, but this credit check thing? why i already have Att service,...

Come to find out, this little jerk wouldnt get commision if he sold me just the phone, so i had to go through that maddening hell, all because someone wanted their $15 commision, Anyways i thought Att could just sell the phone without the service, since it does give you the option when you plug it in, to Itunes anyways, Was I in the Wrong? Then he said it wouldnt work with my plan, so i said thats fine, ill unlock it, then he said, I can not sell you the phone, and kicked me out, btw, im 18, but dont really look it, i look like im 16 or 15, sounds like discrimination to me. What do you think?

I don't think discrimination is what is going on. What you experienced is very common when they've got what you want. It's like that in alot of cases.

Try buying a car sometime!

Everyone thinks the stuff they sell is solid gold.

The only revenge is getting your phone elsewhere, or not getting one at all.

i work with cell phones, but I believe to get the iphone for the $430 it is with a 2 year service plan. Without it, the phone is much more. But I agree with you that if this was the case you should have been told up front. Because paying an extra $100-$200 for a phone without a contract beats paying $430 with a $500 deposit. And it does sound like the person did this to make their commision. I'd call AT&T directly and complain also contact the Better Business Bureau.
Oh and p.s. if you already have ATT service ( sorry I just noticed that after I wrote my response ) there is no need for a credit check!

Not discrimintation . . . based on what ?
Age ? Contracts with minors are Not enforceable ,
That is the law .
If they thought you were a minor , they would just not do business with you .

Complicated phone purchase & contract , Yes .

Discrimination ? . . . . No . . .
