We don't take the oil but that doesn't mean that we are not there because of the oil. If all the oil in Iraq could be shut down there would be less oil to go around and the way it is now we share the oil with other countries . Some one will say that if we didn't sell our Alaskan oil to Japan and other countries we wouldn't have to worry about oil from Iraq but if we shut off the oil supply to these countries we would really be hated by the other countries.

What are you talking about. Exxon and 1 other US Company alone pull 4 MILLION barrels of oil out of Iraq every single month!
"Shell along with Chevron, BP and seven other oil giants, have won contracts to buy Iraq's new oil production of Basra Light crude. The contracts cover production from the Mina Al-Bakr port in southern Iraq from August to December of this year. Under the deal, Iraq will supply 645,000 barrels per day (bpd) for export, an increase on the 450,000 bpd produced in July but still just a third of pre-war levels.
BP and Shell will each send one very large tanker every month to Iraq to pick up their two million barrels. Among the other companies that have signed deals to buy the oil are ConocoPhillips, Valero Energy and Marathon Oil, Total of France, Sinochem of China and a company from the Mitsubishi group, which is buying for Japanese refineries."

you would be able to desire to be with regard to the only guy or woman who does not then. If it wasn't approximately oil, my unit does not have been tasked to place in 2 companies of Royal Marines into the oil refinery on the Al Faw peninsula ahead of the main significant attack to maintain them. Nor might US particular forces have secured the two distribution structures in the Northern Gulf. despite you have faith approximately Saddam Hussein, he replaced into nevertheless the valid ruler of Iraq. particular, he replaced into an evil b@stard and the international, in the main significant, does not mourn his passing, however the war replaced into not greater approximately removing an evil ruler than George Bush is a Muslim. Oil expenses are at the instant fluctuating wildly partly by using panic over the rumours of 'height oil' (Google that one... that is previous me to describe it) and the reality that many oil producing areas are decrease than sturdy politically subsequently the availability of oil isn't assured. Iraq, on an identical time as that is now no longer a classic war, remains no longer something remotely drawing close stability. This drives expenses up. And have faith me, that is in basic terms a rely of time beforehand it starts off to drop returned. the present point is unsustainable. no rely how lots the oil companies would be loving it. yet watch heavily, for one factor you have under no circumstances seen is your close by petrol/ gas station dropping gasoline expenses while the oil value drops. Drop in oil expenses = greater value-effective gasoline to the storage = no value drop to the generic public = larger salary to the storage.

We're supposedly there to help the people of Iraq. The oil is not ours to take. We already look like morons on the world stage and TAKING oil from Iraq would cause the other members of the UN to disapprove even more of our presence there.

Because Iraq needs that oil to get the money to get their country back together. Besides, it would be political suicide for the US to take over Iraqi oil production.
Buying oil from Iraq does not mean taking it from them. It is commerce, and Iraq needs it.

"It's embarrassing that George W. keeps trying to deceive the American public about developments in Iraq, but it's shameful that the media establishment blithely goes along, parroting Bush's deceit.
Take Bush's high-pressure push to ram his new oil law through the Iraqi Parliament. The official line is that this is a healing measure that would provide for a fair distribution of oil profits among Iraq's Shiites, Sunnis, and Kurds - and its passage is the number-one non-military benchmark that the White House has set to measure Iraq's 'progress'.
Major media outlets in our country have swallowed Bush's line whole, frequently and unquestioningly reporting that, for some reason, those quarrelsome Iraqis can't even agree on something as basic as sharing oil revenues.
Truth is, this is not about sharing profits, but about a cynical power grab by multinational oil giants. Big Oil got the Bushites to write a provision into the proposed law that would open two thirds of Iraq's oil fields to ownership by foreign corporations - unlike Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and Iran which all control their oil drilling and extraction.
In short, the law would force Iraq to surrender sovereignty over its most valuable economic resource - and that's why it's not passing. One thing the nation's politicians all can see if just how vehement public opposition to Big Oil's law is.
So when you see stories about Bush, Cheney and others imploring Iraq's Parliament to pass this law - remember, they're not promoting national reconciliation, they're promoting a shameful oil scam." **
Anyone who believes this immoral 'war' is about bringing democracy to Iraq, defending our borders against 'terrorists' in some unknown 'evil empire, or establishing peace in the Middle East is sadly naive. Ever since Day One, this 'war' has been about OIL and WAR PROFITEERING. Nothing else.
Bush lied to Congress, hoodwinked the American people and conned our valiant U.S. troops into believing there was honorable purpose in attacking another sovereign nation that in no way threatened, provoked or attacked the United States. 675,000 Iraqis and 3,800 U.S. soldiers have sacrificed their lives so that a handful of wealthy elitists, industrialists and power brokers can become wealthier and more powerful.
Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and all their war-mongering friends deserve a special oil-soaked, blood-stained corner of Hell where they can share eternity with:
* all 535 members of the most arrogant, incompetent, evil, contemptible, cowardly, corrupt Republican-led Congress in U.S. history that stood by and watched as Bush ran rip shod over our Constitution -and-
* all 535 members of the most arrogant, incompetent, evil, contemptible, cowardly, corrupt Democratic-led Congress in U.S. history that promised to end this war if they were elected, and - to date - have done nothing to keep that promise.
May God damn them ALL! -RKO- 09/18/09

Because "spoil of war" would make us conquers as the sicko Leftist would have you believe. We do however purchase the oil and help protect and improve production. Lets face it. That area of the world is a ****-hole. Hot during the day....freezing at night. And no real resources other than the oil itself.

I'm old enough and have enough education to know we are in Iraq to stop the next world war. 3700 dead American soldiers is bad but that is over 4 years. In Vietnam that was a bad week. In WW II that was a bad day.
If we don't win in Iraq, you or your children will have to fight on a much larger scale later-or worse.
There is the domino theory. If Iraq falls, then Iraq, Syria, and Iran will attack and try to destroy Israel. Israel to defend herself will nuke them. Iran will be a crater.
Russia is in alliance with Iran and will defend them. We are in alliance with Israel. Forget the cold war, this will be the real thing and billions of people could die in hours if our efforts to avoid it fail.
Iraq is that serious.
We don't take oil or profit from war because we hold to a higher standard. The best thing to happen to a country is to lose a war with the U.S. We invest and rebuild, and give them a new country. Look at what we did for Germany, and Japan.
Yes, 3700 Americans have died in Iraq.
However, 50 million Iraq citizens now live with the hope of liberty. Freedom is not free.
I see my answer is not popular.
Perhaps when your children do "duck and cover" drills in school, you might begin to understand.
I am a disabled Vietnam veteran and know all to well the horror of war. I gave a lot so you can have the freedom to hate war, and choose not to see there are times in an evil world it is necessary.
Had we stopped Hitler before Poland, 25 million people would not have died. Radical Muslims are the Nazis of our day.
It is easy to not learn the lessons of history or to accept the painful truth of seeing the geo-political grand scheme of things.
I accept your "thumb's down" votes with pride.
Don't forget the men who died so you can disagree..
RKO states:
"Anyone who believes this immoral 'war' is about bringing democracy to Iraq, defending our borders against 'terrorists' in some unknown 'evil empire, or establishing peace in the Middle East is sadly naive. Ever since Day One, this 'war' has been about OIL and WAR PROFITEERING. Nothing else."
I can tell you are educated but perhaps young. You fail to see the big picture or know the lessons that history can show. I am sad that you tell the Mothers of dead soldiers they died for oil.
You are mistaken sir. The world is the largest chess game there is,and we do not speak openly our moves or all our reasons.
We hold in reserves enough oil to sustain our nation over 20 years. We have the greatest economy without needing to be greedy about it.
Iraq is of strategic importance partly because of oil. Darfur is not important for the same reason. But Darfur is not a potential threat to bring us into a nuclear war with Russia.
Iraq and Iran are.
I wish it was true, that oil is the only reason we are there.
We could pay top dollar for Iraq's oil and save billions compared to the cost of this police action in Iraq.
Sadly the world is not that simple.
