I don't believe so. Ich free-swims until it finds a host and only then does it begin it's reproductive stage. You don't really know if Ich is gone unless you have fish in the tank that no longer have outbreaks.

As far as I know, the best way to get rid of Ich is to raise the water temperature to about 85 - 88F, do large water changes on a daily basis (at least 40%), and add salt to your tank. It's also a good idea to pick up some medication specifically for Ich. Also, get an air pump and add some aeration stones because the warmer the water, the less oxygen it can hold. It'll help reduce the stress on the fish from the disease, the warm water, and the medication your using to treat Ich.

I've heard that once your fish recover from Ich once, they probably won't get it again. Let's hope that's the case! Good luck!

No ich is always living in your aquarium, it only attacks the fish if their immune system is low due to being weakened by another disease, bullying by other fish, open wounds, poor water conditions . etc. Here is an informative website on saltwater ich (you do have a saltwater tank right? you said saltwater so..) http://www.liveaquaria.com/general/general.cfm?general_pagesid=78

hope i could be of help. good luck :]
