I have a digital thermometer that takes four AAAs or an adaptor that plugs into the wall. The thermometer will run for about 6-8 months on the batteries. Is it costing me more to keep it plugged in or should I unplug it and replace batteries every 6-8 months? Hmmmmm

Probably the batteries, especially if you buy them in bulk at a warehouse store. The adapter is a 'vampire' which draws power all the time. Collectively, they consume an amazing percentage of total electric power consumption. As technology improves, and public pressure demands it, these 'vampires' will become more efficient, and the answer to your question will change.

If you plug in the adapter ONLY when you use the thermometer, then the adapter is already cheaper.

Hmm. -Interesting Question! I'd go with the Adaptor being cheaper... -particularly since those Thermometers can last a LONG time, & all those "AAA"s can really add up over the years! (& they DON'T get any cheaper with time- either!)
