I hope your bags are packed. It sounds very much like the very early stages of labor and your new little one could be coming very soon. Congratulations to you, good luck and God bless :o)

39 wks 3 wks overdue?? um no!!
You may have alot of pains here and there and cramping and pressure and all kinds of stuff before you actually go into labor. When you are actually in labor though your contractions will come in a timely matter very close together..a contraction causes your whole stomach to become tight and hard..until that happens I don't think your in labor..It'll be soon though!!! Good Luck!

If you are (and it sounds like you might be) it's in the VERY early stages. It could be like that for two weeks on and off. When you really go into labor it'll pick up pretty quick and you'll see the difference. Congrats!
And to Lori, don't judge people, you have no right. No, 39 weeks is not overdue. If you're going to be rude, know what you're talking about please.

YOU'RE IN LABOR. CONGRATULATIONS! OR CLOSE TO
THE FETUS IS VIABLE AFTER 36 WEEKS
BE CALM, BE CAREFUL AND STAY AS QUIET AND RELAXED AS POSSIBLE.
THE BABY CAN HEAR AND SEE AT THIS POINT.
DO DEEP BREATHING
AND LET YOUR BODY GO LIMP
JUST FOCUS ON THE PAIN
BUT WITHOUT TENSING UP
YOU NEED TO REALLY LEARN TO LET GO
AND LET YOUR BODY GO COMPLETELY LIMP
THIS WILL HELP YOU THROUGH
AVOID 'PITOCIN' AT ALL COSTS
IT SPEEDS UP LABOR, BUT IT CAUSES UNNATURAL LABOR PAINS THAT ARE MORE PAINFUL THAN NORMAL LABOR
THIS IS A NATURAL PROCESS
SO JUST LET THE BODY TAKE ITS COURSE AND TAKE YOU THROUGH
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW BABY
I HOPE YOU CONSIDER BREAST FEEDING
THE FIRST TWO WEEKS IS CHOLESTERUM

THE BABY SHOULD BE LAID ON YOUR STOMACH AFTER DELIVERY WHICH IS RARELY DONE IN THE US
NATURALLY GIVEN 20 MINUTES THE BABY COULD CRAWL TO THE NIPPLE BY SMELL
IN ANY CASE, KEEP YOUR BABY CLOSE
HOLD IT IMMEDIATELY, THIS IS NEEDED FOR A CHEMICAL EXCHANGE THAT TAKES PLACE BETWEEN CHILD AND BOTH PARENTS, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY WILL HELP WARD OFF POST PARDUM SYDROME, WHICH OCCURS MORE IN CESEAREAN SECTIONS AND CASES WHERE THE MOTHER IS UNDER SEDATION OR SOMEHOW UNABLE TO BE WITH HER CHILD AFTER IT'S BIRTH.
TO BE WITH AND CLOSE TO THE BABY EXCHANGING THESE NATURAL BIOLOGICAL CHEMICALS IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT
THE FATHER ALSO NEEDS TO HOLD THE BABY AGAINST HIS BARE CHEST, BUT MOMMY FIRST
LAYING THE BABY ON THE STOMACH HELPS AID IN THE EXPULSION OF THE AFTER BIRTH NATURALLY. UNFORTUNATELY HERE IT IS BASICALLY 'YANKED' OR PULLED OUT WHEN THAT IS NOT NECESSARY. IT COMES OUT ON IT'S OWN. AND THE CORD IS CUT TOO FAST, THIS IS ALSO A NATURAL PROCESS WITH MANY NUTRIENTS STILL AVAILABLE FOR THE BABY, BUT WE ARE IN THE US WITH IT'S CUT AND GO POLICIES AND DRIVE THRU HURRY UP BABY DELIVERIES.
BEST OF LUCK TO YOU AND YOUR NEW FAMILY.
HAPPY PARENTING.

first of all ignore stupid, rude people. i know it is easier to get people's experience then ask a doctor. second..... it is your body. if you think something is going on. call your doctor or go and get checked...... you are almost to your due date... so it may be the start of early labor. my midwife told me to empty my bladder and lay down with my hand on my belly. if my belly tightens and then loosens then i am having contractions, and when they get to be 4-6 in an hour to go to L&D. good luck.. and i hope you get to hold your baby soon!

That is a question to ask a medical professional. I would call you doctor to talk to them about your feelings. They will tell you the best route to go for you and your child. Good Luck!
