The Internet will be much better developed, and faster. Games will have photo-realistic graphics.

We used to get our cheap consumer goods from Taiwan (1970's), then Japan (1980's), then Mexico (1990's), now China (2000's). In another 10 years it might still be China, because their growth track looks more sustainable than these other countries and they value trade enough not to muck it up with trade restrictions and tariffs.

By 2017 most of the baby boomers will be retired and we will really start to feel the crunch from the exploding costs of social security and medicare, both of which are known to be financially unsustainable. Tax rates will have to be significantly higher, and as a result economic growth will probably be in the dumps.

Population wise the US is at about 300 million now, that may be 320 million by then. Most US population growth is not through births, but by immigration. Some other western countries with even lower birth rates than ours, and also much lower immigration, will actually have lower populations than they do now. Some of these countries include Russia, Japan and Italy. China, India and Africa will be the main centers of global population growth.

Politically, the US will probably still be ruled by the same two stagnant parties that rule it today, because election laws have pretty much made it impossible for any third parties to get a foothold.

Hybrid cars will be much more common, and advances in battery and fuel cell technologies will mean the start of widespread use of cars that don't use gas--either all electric, or running on hydrogen or some other fuel.

These are a few of my prognostications. I'm an amateur futurist, and I like to keep up on the latest info about the future.

Your ipod will be connected directly into your brain, and the nano will visual suction cups over our eyes will allow us to live in a wonderful world we created. The machines that watch over us, will use our own energy to power the world. We will lay in pods, and only a few will know that it is all and illusion. Finally, a group will invade this computer world and begin to fight back and a special person will step forward and have the powers to defeat the evil forces.
