Is it like the little kid version of engagement?

I got one a long time ago, but I broke up with him soon after. I was just wondering what the promise was.

I'm not big on jewelry. I'm a tomboy. And anyway, I did'nt want any kind of commitment, it was just nice to screw the same person all of the time. So that's why I left him. I made it completely clear what it was I wanted and look what he did...

It's just a reminder of the commitment you made when you and the other decided to have a relationship(an actual relationship, not hooking up for a few days/weeks). Meaning you promise that you wouldn't lie or cheat. Sort of like a young version of an engagement and wedding ring.

I've always just kind of seen a promise ring as a promise to stay together, and to keep one person from hinting at actual marriage, for people with issues.

The whole point is to make money for the jewelers. And greedy women make that happen. I don't believe in them. And the money we would have spent on an engagement ring we put into our home buying fund. Guess I'm not big on diamonds.

I gues its just to show them how you are feeling about them at that point in time thats why promise rings ar for teens and engagement rings are for adults

It's like playing grow up too fast and be just like the other miserable people that made dumb commitments base on possessiveness...

It's a guy's way of getting around actually getting engaged but still getting sex.

it's a way to make a commitment w/o actually making a commitment. and a complete wast of money... unless you reuse the ring.
