To say otherwise does not support his socialist agenda. Socialists always denigrate the successful and wealthy in society, building resentment among the less successful and wealthy.

While there are a few who inherit their wealth, the vast majority spend their lives pursuing education and exercising the discipline and responsibility to build their 'estate'. Hard work alone won't cut it. It's the old adage, work hard AND smart. Education, seeking and pursuing opportunities, embracing change, taking calculated risks, these all lead to success. While some were out having fun, others of us were studying and working late into the night. While some got with a girl and started having kids when they were just out of high school, others of us waited until we could afford to get married and afford to support a family. So to resent those who have pursued their education and taken those risks and exercised the discipline to advance their career is, in my opinion, base. Nothing and no one other than ones self has ever stopped anyone in this country from doing and achieving the very same levels of success.

But let's pander to the resentful, less successful in society. That well, it seems, has no bottom.

You didn't understand what he was saying.

What Obama means is that the wealthy can avoid taxation a lot easier (through loopholes, dividends, etc.) than the working class.

The government should tax wealth, not income. Income tax hamstrings the public purchasing power, thus lowering overall sales tax revenues.

People should pay for the lifestyle they live. Thus if you are wealthy and want to live like a fat cat, then you are going to pay for it. If you are wealthy and want to live frugally, then you won't pay very much tax at all. Same goes for middle and lower class.

Of course you have to work to get wealthy! What he needs to say is that his (Obama's) new tax code will benefit the lazy, dead beats and not those whom work hard for their wealth. Whom will it hurt? You and I.

Here's a real brain teaser for you. If you were, say, born into wealth but you do not work. You do not show any income what so ever, never mind the millions you have were ever it is. Because you do not show an income, you are considered by our govt. to be poor.

Not necessarily. There is no real reason that dividends and long term capital gains shouldn't be taxed as ordinary income. They're the same damn thing. I know that some conservative pseudoeconomists will try to argue this point. But they'll be WRONG...

Not at all. Some people get wealthy by working--for example, Bill Gates, Ted Turner, and Warren Buffet (all liberals, BTW).

Or you can inherit it (Bush), steal it (like Enron) or con people out of money (Pat Robertson).

And--if you check out more names, you'll find the political correlation of the above holds true generally.

Most wealthy people had to work to get there. There, of course, a few wealthy people who don't have to work at all. We call them Congress.

Obama hasn't a clue what he's talking about. But then, neither does any Democrat politician. They've never worked for a living themselves in the first place.

Not if you're part of the government. Ubama, Hillary, Edwards, Uncle Teddy Kennedy, etc. have never worked a day in their lives.
