does it have to do with diets what

(please no racist jokes or "oh your attitude sucks" im trying to find out why some people think different races smell differently..)

I don't know. I bathe every morning and evening. I think it comes down to hygiene. I don't smell like a wet dog for one.

Everybody produces a natural smell based largely on diet (as well as hygiene). Usually most people in a given area have a similar smell and so don't notice it, similar to a regional accent. When people of different cultural backgrounds, with different diets and hygiene standards mix together, the difference becomes noticeable. Back during the Viet Nam war, American Special Forces often ate the native Vietnamese diet to make themselves less detectable in the jungle; even from a long way off, their U.S. diet gave them a distinctive smell.

i've heard the wet dog thing and i think it has to do with hygiene and white people. every person has a certain smell if they don't bathe or put on deoderant and i've been around some some white people who smell like that if they get caught in the rain or something. but the black ppl thing and burnt rubber i've never heard before. musk is musk no matter what race u are and if your armppits stink they all smell the same on every race

I agree with smurfette. I'm white, and I'm sure white people have a smell to black people. black people smell different to me a lot of the time. It's not a bad smell, just different. Gees people, what's your problem? It seems that people on here seem to confuse different with bad. I've smelt a lot of bad smelling whites, Mexicans, and blacks. It's just the way they live, but as for the racial scent, I don't know what causes it. Pretty interesting.

Just before retiring I was working with the public from all
over the world. Must of have a bad nose or wasn't doing
hard enough sniffing, 'cause I didn't notice anything different
than brand of cologne or perfume. What difference does
it make ?

No, they don't smell!! The only reason people might smell different is from their different purfume. Get new friends and get out more. You must live in the country on a farm.

Diet and hygiene have everything to do with the way a person smells...ethinicity has nothing to do with it, although it might seem related to some extent because different sub-cultures incorporate their own typical diets.

Never heard of either of these stereotypes, though

I know what a wet dog smells like, but I don't know what the black smell is.

You may not be, but your friends are making stereotypical racist comments about the smells of white and black people. I have no idea why anyone would say something as silly as that.

I'm Egyptian and I don't have a smell, thank you. I bath daily. But I wonder if you go around sniffing people.
