i ask this because: 1. ill hear one track on tiestos cd and then ill hear the exact same one on ATBs, or vice versa 2. how are the big name djs able to get the rights to play these tracks that are actually being created by unknown djs? 3. are these tracks being bought or given to these artists to play on their cds and in concert? just was curious, after realizing this, i now see that there are not many rivalries between different djs and there is a lot of love and open-mindedness between one another as opposed to the hip hop or rock scene. thanks for answering everyone

Same way the "samples" get onto "new" tracks in hip-hop/rap.

In my opinion, the artists who are less well known are probably thrilled that djs like Tiesto or PVD want to use their tracks on compilation cds and in live dj sets. The more exposure, the better. Also, every artist has a unique style that makes each track their own. You can hear the difference when Tiesto remixes a track, when Ferry takes the same song and puts his spin on it, when Dirty South does the same, etc. For example, I recently heard Tiesto's remix of Justin Timberlake's song LoveStoned. I was so surprised . . . it's really good! I don't normally like JTs music. So if Tiesto can make trance lovers buy a JT track, that's more money in his pocket, I'm sure!

I suppose royalties and other payments are certainly involved, but I don't know any details.

You are right, you will see a lot more cooperation among djs than you would among other genres of music. And now look at the dance tracks that are coming out in hip hop music - Kanye sampled Daft Punk, so did Busta Rhymes with Technologic . . . and when two djs get together to create music, the results are amazing . . . listen to Gouryella, which is Tiesto and Ferry Corsten together. Outstanding!

The only way they can do this is to pay a royalty fee or else they will end up like Vanilla Ice who nicked the Queen hook line.

DJs who create the original may allow certain loops to be open source and you may find many on open source disks.

If the slighest infringement occurs on any artists music, then the guy/girl who infringes will face hefty fines if convicted.

The other option is several Djs will get together and buy the 100% rights to an original track and license it to other Djs outside the license. All in all...

NO DJ OR ARTIST CAN GET AWAY WITH COPYING THESE DAYS BECAUSE OF THE INTERNET.

You may get away with copying their disc or albums for friends but its a different story if an artist brings out within the public domain a track and it clearly violates copyright.He/She better have a large bank balance if they have indeed infringed.

Hope this helps.

My brother mixes [just for fun though] he takes song by big names and makes them his own by fooling around with the beats and world. I think however that if you make a CD or something you must ask the creator of the song. And as for paying to use the song. I think some pay and others know for example [I would think] if a new DJ makes a song and someone like Armin Van Buuren wants to use it, he won't pay because he is giving the DJ publicity. But I'm not all sure
