marijuana causes physical intoxication, much like alcohol. so if it was going to be legalized you would have to make it to 21 year olds or older. second, it is addictive and a gateway drug. seldom do people only smoke marijuana for the rest of their lives. they want to feel more of the same and so try harder and harder drugs. there are benefits, but the majority of people get the same benefits from THC pills.

Okay Marijuana is a drug okay? Hemp is something else entirely.
Marijuana is an addicting drug. If it were legalized people would not have money for anything because they would be out on the streets buying Marijuana.
Not only that but if one becomes addicted to it then they will not be able to function without it!
Marijuana is also quite toxic. Enough said.
Eventually people will get tired of Marijuana and will move up to the more lethal drugs like Ecstasy. Several people die of overdose every year but what would happen if it were legal? Nobody would be afraid to take an overdose and bam! More people are dead because of a stupid drug.
Marijuana is also linked to Lung Cancer (as is tobacco)
Marijuana can lead to psychosis...a loss of contact with reality.
Sure these Problems may not sound that bad for a few individuals but if just 5% percent of the population had at least 1 of these problems related to Marijuana then ...lets just say lets hope that won't happen.

I've never used pot myself, but I can say this much. I've been around a long while and I can't recall a single time when somebody who was only using weed has ever bothered me or threatened my safety. But I've known plenty of violent drunks. And I don't remember ever seeing a news headline such as "wife beaten up by husband while under the influence of marijuana". Take care...

You know there are reasons why but if you use them to keep it illegal the you have to outlaw liquor and tabaco as well,
the only reasons why it still is illegal is mostly political, and financial,
to quote george clinton,
"There's more money in keeping it illegal than there is in legalizing it,"
(from tales of a D.E.A. dope dog, Live at the house of blues)

Because the FACTS are that the people who currently control the money would lose money. Because pot is so versatile it can almost be created into anything, and when I say this I am VERY serious. And in many instances Hemp is stronger and longer lasting than the other counter point we currently have. Look at paper...Hemp doesn't color as quickly nor does it tear as easily. Same thing goes for clothing...Hemp is stronger than cotton.
EDIT: Brian. HEMP and POT and MARIJUANA are all the same thing. Don't believe me? Look it up. In fact look at my link!

The argument that it is a gateway drug is bunk. That has never been proven. It also doesn't cause permanent mental impairment. It however does cause temporary impairment similar to alcohol. Persons can be deterred from drinking and driving because there are reliable methods for testing alcohol intoxication. However, there are no reliable methods to determine if a person is currently under the influence of marijuana, so deterring toking and driving would be near to impossible. That's the only reason I can think of.

Because if it were legalized we couldn't be a nation of over crowded Prisons, it is a law of ignorance made to keep citizens in jail locked up for years beyond what a child molester or even murderer would have to stay for!

We have enough intoxicants. We are a hedonistic society that just wants to get high and get laid. Pot DOES lead to harder drugs. Pot is NOT as safe as the pro pot people declare. Do we really need more Brittany's? More Lohans? More Robert Downey Jrs?
Holland was once a Nation a lot like ours. They slowly abolished Christianity and the chaos began. Liberal abortion laws, prostitutes in store windows, heroine parks, gay marriage, etc. Legalizing pot moves us one step closer to the Dutch.

All the reasons the government used to outlaw it were bogus.
Most of the statistics showing harm are skewed at best, and outright lies and conjecture at best.
Sorry, I cannot come up with any reasons why it should not be legalized, none.
But I'm sure some religious fundamentalists will come up with a whole slew of them for you.

Because...
If it were legalized, the price of Mary Jay will go down.. and that's not good for the drug dealers..
And the cops can't plant pot in people just to catch them..
