My suitemate, we share a bathroom, has a calostomy bag and she empties it in the toilet like 3 times a day. The problem is that, even though the bathroom window is open and the door to my room is closed, the smell fills my room with the most disgusting odor I've ever smelled in my life! It's sooOOOooo strong and horrible.

It's so embarassing when it happens and we have people over. I know she can't help it, but no one should ever have to have that strong of an odor fill their room for that long of a time! I've talked to my RA about it...but no one knows what to do and the smell doesn't really even bother the girl that's creating it!

HELP PLEASE! I'm in need of any answer or advice you can give!
Thank you!

Did you ever think that maybe it does 'Bother her too'.
She has to live with it all her life.
Maybe if you close the window the breeze wouldn't take the smell through to your room.
Ask her to tip some strong disinfectant in before and after maybe this might help.
Good Luck

Is there an exhaust-fan in the bathroom? If so, it needs to be turned-on to HIGH before the bag is emptied. If the odor is coming in under the door to your room, place a towel against the bottom of the door. A rapid flushing of the toilet as soon as she starts the dump will remove the source before it builds up. (Also known as a "Courtesy-flush") Also, a direct, compassionate discussion of the odor-emanations problem with the suite-mate would be the best way to take care of things. Be glad it isn't YOU with the colostomy bag

Ask her to empty her bag at diff times so when you know you will have people over it will be already done.i understand she has to empty but does it have an odor before it is emptyed. Maybe the 3 times of day early morning, evening and nights. so i guess what i am saying depends on whats going on whatever you do please be polite. There are lots of deodorize stuff out there to use

have the r.a. make the girl have a constant supply of oust air sainitizer or similar, and instist that she uses it every time. if the problem persists, you may need to find another room. if you need to say something to her later (because she may get sad or defensive) tell her something along the lines of:

"i know this is not your fault, but the reality of the situation is that when you empty your bag, it does smell - alot. i wish it didn't or that you didn't even have to go through this horrible situation, but that isn't the case. we need to work this out."

good luck.
