Gee, I hope he wins, Senator Chambers that is.
I just saw this on CNN.
I absolutely love it.
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy!

He's trying to show that you have a right to sue anyone, even God.
I think this is hysterical.

Okay, before I even read the other answers, I lived in Nebraska for 5 years back in the 80's. Ernie was a Senator in the Unicameral at that time, and raised all kinds of he** on behalf of regular people. He may seem radical, but it's the way he gets his point across. Point in fact: He refused to wear suits to the Senate floor, but instead wore his blue jeans and a sweatshirt with the arms cut off. Didn't make him any less effective either. And he is not a fool. The has a law degree, and is actually one of the smartest people I've ever had the pleasure to listen to. He may be different, and probably no one believes in God more than he does, but he's got a point to get across and he WILL get it across. Besides, what idiot of a judge won't let a woman who's been raped use the word "rape" in a trial. Only an *real* a***** who probably believes that either all women ask for it or deserve it even if they don't.
You go Ernie!

I am laughing so hard my sides hurt. Personally, I think the man is a genius. I seriously doubt, however, that he should ever run for president. (I think the Bible belt may have it's objections to the fact that he DARES to try to sue God, no matter what "noble" reason he may have.)
As to the serving of papers upon the plaintiff, the article clearly states that he has repeatedly tried to serve papers upon God ["despite reasonable efforts to effectuate personal service upon defendant,"] the Senator has petitioned the court to waive service as God is omniscient and knows already about the suit.
The judgement of the court shall be interesting, but this stunt might backfire by setting a bad legal precedent that will affect lawsuits in the future. The Senator may just have hoisted himself on his own legal petard.

I've seen lawsuits against God, ghosts, demons, Satan, etc. It is a publicity stunt. It will also cost the taxpayers a couple thousand dollars in court staff time and the general waste of judicial branch resources.
By the way, Chambers will lose, automatically. Chambers knows that he must personally pay a process server to deliver the summons. To do that, he must give the process server God's address in the county in which he filed suit. He will not pay a process server to do that since he knows it is impossible.
What he did is indicative to the problems with our government. Chambers is wasting tax payers' money to make a personal statement and/or just get himself in the news. Tens of billions of dollars of our money is wasted every year because our state and national leaders do this nonsense. Laugh good and long. The price for this is coming out of your paycheck in the form of taxes.

before everything, I seen it a frivolous stunt to make a factor approximately theism, yet now that there is an "answer", i'm questioning if he shouldn't initiate a misrepresentation suit. The courts are not playgrounds. There are concepts to maintain on with, even whilst the suit is insincere. faux information have unquestionably no place there and in spite of clown wrote it up could be disbarred or fired. the guideline of regulation is that significant.

Now wait! It gets better! He's not only suing God, he is represented by Johnny Cochran. This is becoming more spectral by the moment!
God has just filed a motion for change of venue! He wants the case moved in front of St. Peter's court! Wow! What a case! Court TV is working OT!!!

The real issue is who is he going to get to serve the papers. Seems to me you have to be willing to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to become a process server in this case, and your chances of staying in the big guys place are probably pretty slim after you hand him the papers and tell him he has just been served.

Haha. i agree. its funny. He has no way to extort anything from God whether He exists or not! Was he high when he filed it? I'd like to see it happen. It would be so funny.

How pathetic. How does he expect to collect? Isn't he aware that a stunt like this is just going to ruin his career? Anyone that tries a stunt like this must be of limited intelligence anyway.
