I don't think there's any firm answer to this, because sentience isn't an either/or state. We grow into our sentience gradually, going from babies who operate purely on instinct, to toddlers who go mostly on emotions, to kids and teens who use a mix of emotions and rational thinking, to adults who use rational thought the most often. If I had to guess, I would say that self-awareness probably begins around age 1, give or take a few months. A lot, though, would depend on the exact criteria you use to define sentience.

There are varying degrees of sentience just as there are children of all ages. It seems that the interest in this instant case concerns awareness of the self as something within the physical world but then apart from it also. Recalling my childhood as an example, I would ask myself the question: Who am I? This would evoke a very intense tingling all over my body. It is so difficult to explain this feeling, but it seemed that the question was at the essence of being.
So for me the moment of sentience began some time between the ages of 6 and 10 years.

For myself, which I believe is where an answer to this question should start, I became a sentient being at the age of thirty-two. Yep, I know it almost down to the day. I was slow out of the gate, or rather too quick at the things that sidetrack actual beginnings of knowledge, etc., but I have at least begun.
My kid seems to have reached that sentient age earlier, though still not at the reputed seven years old. She was in her twenties. My, my, my.

Depends on the person, and their gender...and also their upbringing, education, background, and about ten thousand other factors.
