i really want this place what can I do to stand out above the others I was thinking or writing her a "thank you for showing me the apartmant email"

That might help. Landlords want tenants that pay the rent and don't damage the units. Offer to prepay rent or let them know how much you like the unit and it may help assure them you will treat it nice. Simply being a polite person goes a long way to making them want you.
Of course the heavy weight will go to rental history, credit rating and income. If you are light on those offer them a cosigner like a parent who will pay the rent if you don't.

Sending a note fine but she could decide before she gets it. I'd go see her again in person and just tell her how much you want it - and that she'll never regret giving you lease.

I am renting now and I can't get the *least* qualified applicant out of my mind who was emphatic about their interest - without overkill. It makes me think that someone who wants it "that" bad will take the best care of it...

good idea just as in an interview you should always send a thank you letter. Since so little people do it, the letter helps you stand out .
