The letter was sent to President Kim Dae Jung in anticipation of an annual day of pardon scheduled for August 15, 1999."

Congratulations to 1996 LSU alumnus, Yongdo Lim, who won a prize from the Korean Mathematics Society for the best paper of the year by a Korean mathematician. The prize was for his paper 'Birkhoff formula for conformal compressions of symmetric cones,' which appeared in the American Journal of Mathematics.

Rimhak Ree(1922-2005), the famous finite group theorist as in (Suzuki-)Ree group, was a Korean expatriate in Canada. Unfortunately, Park Jung Hee, the military dictator of South Korea in the 60's and 70's, didn't allow him to come back to his homeland while he was in the University of British Columbia, and South Korea lost the chance to continue his legacy. He stayed in Canada until he died in 2005.
