Chromatin is found inside the nucleus and it contains the genetic material (DNA) which controls the cells activities.
Since it is found in the nucleus, it is therefore present in both plant and animal cell.

Human genome has 24 distinct chromosomes = 22 autosomes and X and Y 3 billion base pairs and about 24,000 genes.Typical human cell has 23 pairs - 22 +XX = female; 22 + XY = male. Gametes (eggs and sperm) have 23 chromosomes - 1 of each pair.

Chromatin is the collection of DNA, RNA, and protein found in the eukaryotic nucleus or the prokaryotic cytoplasm. Chromatin is mostly a very condensed form of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and to a lesser extent ribonucleic acid (RNA). This is necessary as the genome of any organism is extremely large and so it is necesarry to compact the nucleic acids to be able to fit it inside the cells.

Chromatin is the normal form of DNA in a cell that is not dividing. This is the "working" DNA -- the DNA that provides the instructions for making the cell's proteins.
Chromatin is in plant cells, animal cells, and all cells (including protists, bacteria, and fungi).

chromatin refers to the DNA and the proteins that package it in the nucleus of both plant and animal cells. Generally the protein are histones (the majority) and 'non-histone chromatin proteins' such as the HMG family of proteins.
What does chromatin do? Well since it is the DNA it does everything the DNA would do such as gene expression and replication. However, the packaging of our DNA into chromatin serves as a mechanism to regulate those activities. The chromatin needs to 'open up' for other proteins to bind to the DNA to turn genes on and off or start/stop replication etc.
