I believe that we have control over our own thoughts, motives, and actions. As for what is going on around us, we can only control our reaction.

We can control many of our own actions, but we need help to control the larger environment. Fortunately, we can still vote, still protest and still work with others to help right wrongs already perpetrated. Many rivers have been cleaned up due to environmentalists, the Peace Corps has helped to control hunger and disease, as have Doctors Without Borders. Examples are very numerous. Once we sit back and let things happen, we surrender any control we have. Life will never be Paradise, but there is no one person "pulling our strings." We are not puppets, but intelligent human beings, despite the rotten apples among us. When that rotten apple is removed from the barrel in time, the other apples don't spoil. We can do this through our votes, our positive actions, and our words.

I suppose we have a kind of collective control. However everything we do is interdependant with everything everyone else does. So there is no one person or entity that has control in the pulling strings kind of way. Our fate is orchestrated by all the actions which have preceded the current moment. So I had the control over whether or not I answered your question, but it was your posing the question that led to me answering it, so in that sense you had control. But then again, what ever caused you to post this question in the first place controlled your actions and by extension my actions. And so on and so on. Ultimately, control is illusory.

No control over fate, it's destiny....I know this by special event in my life. All we have control over is how we react to situations. It's like watching a movie, and you're in it. If you get lost in thoughts or be to excited or depressed, you are no longer paying attention and so will not be present to observe what the movie is.

It would have to be 'One Hell of a Conductor' or a 'Puppeteer' to pull this off.... Don't you think!
One the whole we control our lives ~ within the framework that society lays out the Rules within which it expects us to play it.
These Rules create the stress and strain effects that we experience ~ those Problems that life throws up to cause us to bend in some way in order to deal with them.
My brother, who lives in the States, declares that 'every time I manage to save enough money to do something I want, the God's look down and then they smile, and then f***k with my car.'
So, although I make my statement, I can understand the other guys point of view too.

Of course- besides the blueprint we created of our lives before coming here, the government combined with all sorts of secret societies- rule the world.
