For me it's having good friends that won't turn their back on me even when I am having a rough time.

Well it makes me happy to see a friend overcome whatever troubles have come their way lately, especially if they emerge a stronger person because of it.
That, and a good steak and a beer.

I agree with your thought totally. Along with that, making new friends always makes me happy. But then again, you take the chance then too.
