I work for a large corporation and also have direct deposit, however they always mail me my check stub. It is legal for them to dispose of your pay stub, but also just as easy to print another off for you. Each pay check they issue also prints out a stub, but considering how many employees they have, 49 cents times a large amount of employee's can add up in a hurry.
You should ask them, "Can you mail me my pay stub otherwise I would like you to issue me a paper check, in which you will have to mail it to me anyways." Give them the option and hopefully they won't give you the option of leaving. Good Luck

Call the company and request that they get you a copy of your pay stub for you to pick up or you will call the board of labor. If they deny your request then call the board of labor.

If it is THAT important, it seems you might have made an effort to go and get it.
