it really does depend on the state, search in your state constitution for the part it talks about the governor

Steal as much money as you can.Promise many things you know you can't possibly do.Travel throughout your state kissing babies and shaking hands.Go to as many major sporting events as possible in your state.Visit a children's hospital for a photo -op.Cook at a few public fund raising suppers.In general just B.S. your way in to the hearts and minds of prospective voters.
