I had my thyroid removed and have been on one dose or another of Eltroxin and/or Synthroid for the past 3 years. I have forgotten my medication and will be unable to take it for 2 weeks. Should i be concerned? what effects can i expect? how low can my hormone levels drop (and for how long) before it becomes serious?

I would call your doc. & have him/her prescribe you some.
The hormone does take a while to build up in your bloodstream, so the reverse may also be true. Doc's require you not to be on them for 1 month to run tests but that is with people with their Thyroid intact. There are a variety of symptoms but it is also very individual. What were your symptoms, this is what you should look for...

First of all, if your doctor prescribed SYNTHROID you shouldn't be taking the generic because the dosing can be off. If your script is for 112 mcg, you could be getting as little as 100mcg or as much as 125 mcg. It makes keeping your levels stable a difficult thing to do.
You realize not having proper thyroid levels can KILL you, right? So why are you taking this so lightly? I nearly died because my thyroid problems were not diagnosed right away - spent 3 days in the hospital, so you bet I take my meds like clockwork. You don't mess with your thyroid!
Call your doctor and ask him to phone in a temporary script to the pharmacy closest to wherever you are and TAKE IT EVERY DAY for pete's sakes. Respect your body enough not to harm yourself.
