Because the Earth is tilted. The North and South Poles are not exactly North and South, they are tilted. Depending on the point in the Earth's rotation on its axis will determine how much sun it will get during its revolution around the sun. If the North pole is tilted away from the sun then during the revolution around the sun it obviously will not get very much sun. When the North Pole is lacking sun, the South Pole is getting it and vica versa.

It's due to the tilt of the Earth. When the tilt is towards the sun you get nearly 24 hours of light and when it's away, you get mostly dark.

It never gets dark all day but more of a dusk/dawn type deal. Same with the daylight. It does get low in the sky creating a setting sun effect without ever setting.

Actually, the poles have 6 MONTHS of daytime and night time.

The equator has exactly 12 hours of daytime, that is time with the sun above the horizon every day.

If you add all the "daytime" up you find that they are equal for any point on the earth's surface.

It is due to the tilt of the earth's axis with respect to the plane of orbit of the earth around the sun.If the earth's rotational axis had been perpendicular(i.e.,without the tilt) to the orbital plane, the day and night would have been equal at all places on the earht's surace at all times.

Because of its distance from the equator! The earth tilts so that the sun never reaches it.
