A new band teacher was hired this year, and I think she is absolutely wonderful. But students are so rude to her (grades 9-12 band) and she can't take it. Today, I was in choir, but I heard that she told the band, "Just practice..." and she went into her office and shut the door harshly and stayed in there for the last 10 minutes of class. I'm 15 years old, and yes, I'm the "good kid" who pays attention, etc...but that's all beside the point.

Tonight, we'll have a band thing and if I get the chance to talk to her alone, is there anything I could say that would be helpful and understanding yet not awkward? She's 23 years old, so it's not all that weird for me to talk to her, but still...what could I say? or should I not say?

Just give her some encouragement. she will make it through but it will be nice to hear that some of you have respect for her. It is awesome that you are being this considerate. Kids sometimes forget that teachers have feelings

just tell her you're sorry for how the rest of the class acts but not every kid is like that and that she should try to look on the bright side because things will get better

Just tell her you appreciate her. She'll get eaten alive by high schoolers if she doesn't toughen up. If someone starts talking, or joking when they shouldn't, you should put them down in front of everyone. Tell them to stop acting like a child and grow up.
