Just curious what people think...(supposedly the end of the world happens on this day...)

The same thing that happened when the 7th Day Adventists had their day in 1918 (or thereabouts), the same thing that happened when Jim Jones and that wacko in Waco had their 'judgement' days, the same thing Christians were saying when they were being tossed to the lions in Nero's time.....every turn of the century, passing of Haley's Comet or other historical 'markers', the doomsdayers have preyed on the week-minded. Because the Mayan calendar ends in a certain year, your contemporaries have purt that on the pedestal as the next end of world day...the Mayans made no such claim.

The Mayan calendar will roll over.
Dec 21, 2012 is the end of the Mayan long count. To be more specific, it is the end of the 13th long count. So this situation has happened 13 times before. It's just like saying "What will happen on Dec 31, 2007?" Well, the calendar rolls over to the next year.
The bad news here, if there is any, is that the Mayans also believed that things occur in cycles and the predictions were that the cycle would return to much strife at this point in time.

The sun will rise and it will set, the Moon will most likely be visible around the world and the probability is that a lot of people are going to get drunk.

Who knows but God? No one. For all we know the world will have already ended by then. Trying to figure out when Judgement Day will come is useless, because we can't know. We should be prepared for it, though.

they have been saying the world is going to end for the past couple of years...so far nothing had happened so nothing is probably going to happen on this date

Since God created the earth and everything else, and since he is the only one who really knows how and when life as we know it will change, he is the one and only one who knows for sure what is going to happen on that date for everything that happens is done according to his time and his plans not ours or anyone elses.
