With us paying so much in oil, perhaps the war wasn't to lower the cost of oil, but to increase the profits for those who grease the most hands in Washington, Republican and Democratic.

I guess in some cases a "free market" is downright uncapitalistic. I.e. when it leads to monopolies and the inability to compete. Competition is essential to true capitalism.

Actually Wolf, if you count the tax dollars we use to subsidize the oil industry, we pay over 9 dollars a gallon now! (Corporate Welfare)

In the 50's President Eisenhower, former General of Allied Forces during WWII, warned us specifically of corporations getting involved in war profits. As an insider, he saw it coming down the road, and today when a general retires, they fall into the employ of this military industrial complex. Where is their ethics when it comes to this obvious conflict of interests?

That is what I think is behind the oil.

What did De beers do with diamonds? They made sure that THEY controlled the sources so THEY could control the prices. Same thing with the oil.

Good observance. Thanks for the question.

You just agreed with Greenspan's remarks. This war is about oil to the the point where the oil companies will get super rich. Our prescence in Iraq is what is jacing the prices up and Bush is not gonna do a disservice to the oil comapanies(of which he used to run) by taking our troops out. That way oil prices will start falling back down. and god forbid he can't have that happen!

You're getting very warm. The war is more about the control of oil than to lower the cost of oil. And having control means being able to keep profits high.

NOW... you got the idea... it's all about a war the oil companies wanted so they could make obscene profits.

Viet Nam was ALSO fought over OIL but the government has never told the truth to the Gullible AmeriKan people about THAT war, either.

Thats the Conundrum. You hit it in the bullseye. There is no reason for it other than for them to make more money of us!

You think we have it bad, the Europeans in Germany for example when we pay $3.00 a gallon they are paying that per LITER!!! Can you imagine $12.00 a gallon?

CRAZY!!

Peak Oil and the cost will continue to soar with the demand. Ever heard of the law of supply and demand. When the supply is low and the demand remains strong you can name your price.
