If it were offered in your community and you have someone in your family (or friends) who has an addiction problem, would you go to an "Al-Ateen" meeting?

I'm starting one in my community and just trying to get feedback from other teens (besides my 16 year old daughter) across the country. Please give me your opinion and or advice on this matter. It will be truly appreciated.

I am not a teen, but when I was one I did attend some ala-teen meetings. Make sure that the adults presiding over the meetings are sober! I ran into a confusing mess with the AA members that were running the meetings as they were drinking and not making sense! I stopped going but did start again a few years later with alanon and even later with ACOA.

These are great programs! Finding people who live with the same disease, same conflicts, similiar frustrations who can share what has worked for them and give you some feeling of belonging and knowing you are not crazy, you don't have to keep it a secret any longer and can laugh like normal folk is a priceless gift!
Anjel, you will be doing a great good by opening up a meeting in your area! Be patient, it may take a while to get members. I would contact the local schools social workers or Rainbow leaders and let them know that there is a meeting starting up. This is not advertising but rather getting the news out there before it shows up on the AA site.
Bless you!

Well, maybe, if I had someone in my family or friends who has an addiction problem, but I know none of my friends or family would have an addiction problem. If they did, I'd definitely want to help them stop.

Heck yeah. It can be a little hard to deal with sometimes for me, but my worst problem is with those who aren't addicted to anything.
