So it comes down to arrogance. Walking into Taliban country with a smile and a cross is like crashing a party at Jay-Z's house and popping on a Kenny Chesney CD. "Oh, once they hear this, they'll change their mind about what good music is. Come on, it's the 'Ches-NUT!'"

There are two religions that have as basic tenets the need of their followers to "spread the word." Christianity and Islam are the two world religions that believe their followers must "bring in the flock."

Other world religions believe that people will find them and choose to follow once they are discovered. These include Budhism, Hinduism, Jainism, Judaism, Paganism, and so many others.

This basic tenet explains the need for missionaries, it explains the tension between Christianity and Islam, and it explains how the others are often misunderstood; they don;t feel the need to "spread the word."

Personally I am all about finding religion, and not having it preached to me by people who don't understand it is just a means to gain power. There is power in numbers.

BTW: Good Question.

It is arrogant, can you imagine what the Israelis would do American Christians started going there to convert people? Or could you imagine what would happen to a group of Jews if they went to middle America to convert Christians to Judaism? Someone would kill them. It just shows a lack of respect for other peoples beliefs.

actually, the real reason is because Jesus told the disciples that he would not return until the gospel was spread thru out the world...and they do it to bring him back. I'm not at home right now - I can give you the exact scriptures later tonight when i get home. I'm at worst buy looking at computers! hehehe....

I can't understand why Jehovah's Witnesses keep knocking on my door, after years of getting nothing but insults and doors slammed in their faces.

Because some people have all the luck.

There's tons of people out there that haven't heard anything of the sort. Maybe everyone you know knows about Jesus but not everyone else.
