Is working in a strip club a bad thing?

I'm not talking about being a stripper but working as a waitress. I desperately need a job to help my husband with the bills and I'm 19 so I don't have much work experience except for the month I worked at Taco Bell. A friend of mine's brother in law is the manager of a club here and says he will give me a job. The uniforms are very skimpy short shorts and little tops. I can deal with that But I was wondering if it was sleazy and do the guys hit on the waitresses? I've never even been to a place like that before and I was curious before I decided to take the job.

As long as the work you do is honest I don't think it can be looked at as bad. The atmosphere you would be working in might cause some people to think badly but that is a function of their being ignorant of what you are actually doing.

As for guys hitting on you the truth is that can happen anywhere you work. The real question is what will you do if they do hit on you? If you just tell them in effect you are not available then there is no harm done. As for the outfit you have to wear is it any smaller than a bikini worn at the beach, if not what's the problem.

Before you take the job though why not have a talk with the manager and make sure he understands your concerns and limits and that there will be no pressure for you to do more than just waitress. That discussion up front will avoid any potential problems down the road.

Working at a strip club is not a bad thing. It's hard earned money. Just as long as you are comfortable in your setting and that the manager/owner of the club provides a safe environment free of sexual-harassment for you. I'm pretty sure that guys who visit these clubs will in fact hit on you since you know that you'll be wearing very revealing clothing. But that of course, perhaps you have to expect and not to be naive about. Just know your rights as an employee regarding sexual harassment. You should be able to reserve the right to serve anyone - pending on their actions towards you. Why don't you take a job as a waitress at those classier restaurants? Uniform is more decent, you are better treated by the customers, and you may be tipped a whole lot better too. Good luck on your final decision. :D

If it is a respectable place then there is nothing wrong with it. It is just a waitress job. Of course there may be the odd guy who hits on you but seriously they should be paying more attention to the dancers shouldn't they.
You can make some serious tips in a place like that by the way!

No working there is not a bad thing. However, putting yourself in that situation is a problem waiting to happen. You may have more skills than you think! contact your local workforce development agency and ask about jobs that can use your skills and that have the ability to let you advance in a field.

If you stop and think about what your advancement opportunities are at a "strip" joint, what do you think they are? Contact your local Chamber of Commerce and ask about jobs, workforce development and things that you can do. Or, if all else fails go to local high school and ask to speak with one of the counselors.

An easy test about the appropriateness of the position is would you feel uneasy if your mom saw you there or is it something that you would hide from your children? If you are honest about the answer, then you have or answer.

I think its degrading to women to b a stripper!! U got all these strangers staring u down!! U should have more respect for urself. Not sayin u dont but u can get a job or two working at McDonalds, a clothing store or a different kind of restaurant until u get on ur feet. but its ur decision, juss make sure u dont have no kids rite now or u really gonna b struggling.

What is the clubs reputation? Upscale or sleezy- spend a few
hrs there & if your not uncomfortable w/what you see, then waitressing there is fine. Tips will probably be pretty good & in no time, it'll be just a job. Most strippers just treat it like "just a job" & have normal lives otherwise.

it's not "bad" to work in a strip club, but you should consider other alternatives. without much experience you can hostess at a nice restaurant and eventually get promoted to a server or other position. there's not really anywhere to go working at a strip club except - well - up onto the stage. search on craigslist for other restaurant positions and interview a few places before deciding on this job.

yes guys will hit on u n they will probablly assume that u r just as sleazy as the girl on the pole so if u r going to take a job their might as well dance on the pole n really make that money girl! haha but if stripping its ur thing (certainly not mine) just get a job at hooters u make soo much money there!!! good luck!!!!

Guys will still hit on you, but it is not bad as long as you and your husband are comfortable with it. Be prepared though because it is not the most glamorous job, you will run into some shady people. But if you decide to do it the best of luck to you!!!

Well I wouldn't take the job. Do something you like! If you work at those clubs your most likely going to get in a situation you don't wanna be in. And yes guys will hiit on u!
