I was discussing it with a gay male friend earlier today--a friend said that she liked my shoes and he replied, "I made her by them, aren't they fabulous?"

You know, every time I've ever used the word fabulous, people look at me weird. Why aren't lesbians allowed to say fabulous, lol? And are their any primarily lesbian words? If so... I haven't heard them.

: )

I think it all feeds into that whole stereotype that lesbians are sort of butch and mannish, and of course you know that isn't always the case, but unfortunately, so many people have that misconception that to them, hearing a lesbian say "fabulous" is like hearing a straight man say it, which pretty much never happens either. As if the only people who can say "fabulous" are gay men and the chicks on Sex and the City! LOL. I think you should use whatever words you want to use, regardless of your sexual orientation. As for primarily "lesbian" words, for some reason, adjectives that would normally be used by teenage boys in the 80's (bitchin', awesome, etc.) come to mind. Don't know why. : )

If negative feelings are not feelings at all then neither are positive feelings feelings at all. I wouldn't agree with that. While the feeling may be based upon past experience and the wrong take on it, it remains a feeling. I would define negative feelings as those which take us further from the truth/joy that is our true nature. As Spinoza pointed out, 'Suffering is our movement from a greater truth toward a lesser truth. Joy is our movement from a lesser truth towards a greater truth,' or something like that. That's been my own experience. Namaste'

Haha. I found this kind of funny to read.
I think that fabulous is just so closely associated with effeminate gay guys. (when have you really heard a straight guy say fabulous?) I've never heard of any "lesbian" dialect so to speak lol.

Hmmm...it's a good question. Ooh! Ooh suggestion!

"Bitchin" sounds like some sort of equivalent lol

"Those shoes are bitchin"
"Those shoes are fabulous"

I'll try and think of some other ones so I can get out of Biology homework...

I see nothing wrong with using the word, if you are gay, straight or otherwise, don't let what people say bother you.

It's just a trend. Don't make your world become small - anyone can have a little rule to themselves. You can have your own rule like not to mingle with lesbians because you will become one yourself one day.
