My sister is a single mother of three boys. She just has been renting this place for the past couple of months, but she has no furniture. How can I get her some furniture without spending alot of money?

go to any college town...when the students move out...they leave behind all sorts of goodies...including nice furniture..I myself have a tv, kitchen table and chairs, coffee table, pots and pans all from students moving out...keep checking all kinds of goodies are out there

There is a website called "Freecycle" she can sign up for it and it is free and everything on it is free. It isn't always the "best" stuff, but it will do until she can afford to get new furniture. Actually I have got some pretty nice stuff off of it. There are local chapters all over america. It is a Yahoo group

Ask friends and family if they have extra furniture they no longer need. Thrift stores and yard sales are good places to check out.

Try garage sales and want-ads in the newspaper--used furniture is usually inexpensive.

Watch the newpaper for auctions. Trust me ... estate auction are the way to go. They practically give the stuff away. Even if you dont find big pieces, it is a great place to get household items.

goodwill has lots of nice things (especially if you go to the ones located in nice parts of town) or garage sales...

tell your friends and family what you want to do....everybody has at least one piece of furniture they have stashed in the garage .....or an unused room.

Contact your local family services department or contact your church (or any nearby church group). They generally have warehouses and storage areas with donated items for situations just like this.

milk crates are great for lots of things, cinderblocks and lumber make excellant shelving. go dumpster diving, use the kids, they often can get in tight places to get dumpster treasures that adults cant.
