My car has started to make a revving noise everytime I press gas until maybe 40mph then it gets quieter. My car used to be alot quieter when running. Whats wrong?

My car has started to make a revving noise everytime I press gas until maybe 40mph then it gets quieter. My car used to run with minimal noise.
It sounds like a modified sports car noise when I drive. Please help!

It could be any of several things. You might have a bad muffler, or the transmission is failing. The best thing to do is to find a qualified mechanic in your area and have it checked. Go the cartalk website (those guys on NPR) and plug in your zip code. You will get a list of mechanics in your area that people have recommended because of good service.

Have the exhaust checked- probably needs a new muffler...
