I just bought a new intel iMac that has a 1gb 5300 RAM module inside of it. I was wondering if it's possible to combine that with a 2gb 6400 RAM module, or if they both have to be either 5300 or 6400?

YES you can, BUT multiple RAM always synchronize to just one speed, that of the slowest.

You can combine, it will work on the slowest speed among the two rams. So the whole point of the faster ram is useless.

no problem but it will run at the slower speed of the two.

You're also going to use 1GB adn 2GB sticks? Are they DDR2 ram? you get the best speed/performance with matching sticks of memory when using DDR2.

you could have the skill to do it, its merely no longer reported as they might conflict. in many cases nevertheless you will get as rapid because of the fact the slowest velocity you have because of the fact the speedier ram can decelerate however the slower ram won't have the skill to velocity up. desire this enables.
