Hi ive kind of worker my way into a hole.

I used to watch a lot of horrer films, nothing too scary but enough for me to enjoy it. Recently I saw one that scared the hell out of me. I find myself recalling lots of old 8year old's fears. Fear of the dark, etc etc.

Call me a whimp but how can I get back to normality and get a decently nights sleep!

This is a great lesson in "you see what you look for"!! Now you know first hand that what you are around influences you. A very significant life lesson that you can apply in other places in your life. You get to decide what kind of experiences you want.

As for the fear: Now you get to choose where you want to put the focus within yourself. You get to direct your own thoughts. When a fearful thought comes sneaking in, you get to say, "not now, go away!" and send it packing. One way to do this with strength is to have a plan about what you DO want to think about. What would you like to replace the fear with? Courage? Love? Can you think of something that would bring these feelings to you?

Did you watch or read Harry Potter? Remember the "ridikulas" spell? That's a real technique in psychology that you can use for yourself. When you see the scary thing in your imagination, turn it into something funny. Change it somehow in your mind's eye to make it silly.

(And, I agree with the person who said that a little light is fine, go for it if that's helpful. Another way to do this is to ask for the light of angels to surround and protect you.)

One last technique is to decide what you want to dream before you go to bed. Think it over so that your thoughts are focused on the pleasant dreams where you want to spend your time.

Hope that helps. Sweet dreams!

Time? Also, remember that the horror films from your youth were probably things like Friday the 13th. That's not realistic. I'm betting that what you saw this time was more realistic.

Give it some time and you should be okay. Otherwise you may want to seek help from a professional.

I can relate more than I want to. It wasn't a movie, but something scared the flippin hell out of me, and going to school always killed me. I got therepy and took some medication. Now, I barley even think about it. I don't know if your case is THAT serious, but just trying to help ^_^

Sleep with you closet light on until you get over the movie, I still do that periodically when I've watched too many horror movies or my imagination starts acting up on me. Nothing wrong with sleeping with a little light.

try reminding yourself that it was just a movie, none of it was real.
