I need professional help... but i dont feel like going to a shrink...

im 15 years old...

all im good at is video games...

nothing else...

i spend about 5 hours, maybe 7 a day on the computer.

when i go to school, i talk with my friends, but they treat me like crap...

sometimes they dont... but thats on a rare occasion..

im really smart, i do above average on tests, but when it comes to homework, i dont remember to do it.

why, cause of the computer.

its not that easy to just 'give it up'

and i dont want to 'give it up'

i still want to be the gamer i am, just, in smaller increments...

can anyone give me some advice?

Get off the computer and do your homework...Now! The sooner you get it done, the sooner you can get back on.

Ps. get new friends, if they treat you like crap, then they're not really your friends.

You're right, your condition probably doesn't require a shrink. I think about 9/10 responders will agree: come home from school, do homework *first*, then play video games. The logic behind this is pretty straightforward.

You don't have to blame it on the games, as if it weren't the games, it'd be something else, like sports, TV, sex, etc. You shouldn't have to give up your computing interests- but if you don't *pace yourself*, you might lose out altogether.

Stay away from the computer until your work is on, don't go into the room it's in and don't even think about turning it one.

The best way is to go cold turkey, go a week or two without touching the comp and you won't desire to be on it so much.

you say you feel you need professional help....and then you say you don't want to go to a professional. I suspect, that like most teenagers, you don't know what you want or need. You just don't think things through. Why don't you talk it over with your parents and have them help you work out a plan of action?

put the TV on sleep so ion like 20 minutes it will turn off (if your TV/computer does that)

also one thing i do to help is set a number and count to it once you get to it walk away from what you were doing

YOU SHOULD GET ANOTHER HOBBY. LIKE A SPORT!

IF YOUR THAT GOOD AT THE GAMES YOU PLAY, TRY HAVING A GAME TOURNAMENT WITH A BUNCH OF OTHER GAMERS AND THEN YOU WILL REALIZE.. YOUR NOT ALONE.

YOU DON'T NEED HELP, YOUR NORMAL. YOU JUST NEED TO GET OUT MORE!!

GOOD LUCK SWEETHEART!!!!!!!!!!!!
