When I look at photos of me (especially those taken by my parents) I sometimes become shocked at how ugly I look at certain angles or with certain expressions. Yet the other half of photos I see of myself, I think I'm really pretty. What does this mean?? It's actually becoming a real problem because bad pictures make me depressed.

It's normal to slightly dislike some pictures of yourself. But if you dislike them to a large extent, and if it becomes a problem, that's somewhat abnormal. I'd say it just means you're shallow. Don't feel too bad. A lot of women are shallow.

Its normal for someone with low self-esteem. I take my own pictures so I get the angle I think I look best at. And I've ripped up many pictures my friends managed to get of me because I hated them. And yes I've cried over them too. I'm sure that your lack of self-esteem doesn't only effect your liking of pictures of yourself. Try to look beyond the angle of your picture for one thing. And see the life of the picture. A pose is boring but if you can see people in the process of life. Its not so bad

I don't know if that's weird because I think I look really ugly in certain angles too.

Your depressed thing though...
Just don't take photos at that angle. Simple.

get over it. You're just getting shot at the wrong angle and you are far too self obessed.

a funny story, though. I was working on the set of a porn, and the photographer brought in a box (about 5 x 18 inces) full of cards showing you how to achieve flattering poses(not just for erotica). you should buy one of those

I'm 22. sometimes i look 40 in pics, sometimes i look 12.

It all depends on the experience of the photographer.

practice different angles in the mirror and try to use them when someone is taking a picture of you, but most importantly, worry about having fun, not the picture

I think mostly everyone has that reaction. Its hard to take a pretty picture every time...look at all the celebrities, they take bad pictures once in awhile!

Your just like everyone else...no one likes all pictures they see of themselves. Decide which angle or side you like the best, and try to use that side when having photographs done.

Were you abused as a kid by one of your parents? Maybe you see them in your face at those angles

Pictures really do suck at capturing a persons sparkling personality. So, don't let it bother you, really.
