Dracula is a great horror story. If you want something more contemporary, try The Exorcist or Ghost Story. Pax - C

The most important thing to have a good command of the language you are writing in. Every time you write something, you are giving someone a chance to judge your writing ability so take care.

That said, you can play the what-if game to get different twists on the same idea. For instance, Dracula is a very common character and he is always a villain. What if he was forced to become a vampire out of an act of revenge? What if he had no choice and is tortured by every person he kills?

Now if you take that second sentence and change it.... What if he has resigned himself to the fact that he must kill and it doesn't bother him any more until he meets someone he shouldn't have killed? Going along that line.... what if the person he killed can appear as a specter in the hour after he has killed--every time he has killed?

Hmmmm. This could be good......

Going back to the person he shouldn't have killed, what if that person was an alcoholic?
What if he can only kill alcoholics now and he has the most horrid hangovers?

Hmmm. Dracula in Alcoholics Anonymous.....

You get the idea.

Suggestion: a writer, one who has been working very hard to get his horror novel finished for the editors and publishers who have been waiting too long for it and are angry, finds himself becoming the character he's writing about.

The character is an imp from Hades, a mischievous imp that is also rather cruel in the tricks and temptations he puts in front of human. The imp is invisible to humans but looks somewhat like a half gnome, half troll... big for a gnome but not as ugly as a troll. Ugly, though.

The writer realizes that as he is typing his hands are becoming invisible; he looks in a mirror and that shows him the imp body, though when he looks down at himself he sees nothing... a strange combo of imp and human.

And take it from there, if you want!

Deer hunting expedition gone wrong?

Zombie gerbils?
