If it's a later model with a keyless chuck you just put it in reverse and hold the larger colar closest to you and pull the trigger. If it's the older model with holes on the outside of the colar you need the "key" to loosen the grip of the chuck.

Larry,, got it , no holes on the chuck=key less chuck........
holes in the chuck you need a chuck key turn counter clock wise to loosen.if you don't have a key..look for a place that repairs power tools...they may have an extra one they would sell you.

About the keyless chuck - when you put it in reverse, WATCH YOUR FINGERS!!! Press the trigger very lightly. They have ALOT of torque!!!
