I was abroad for a few months, I returned to find that the tenant in my girlfriend's flat (where I live also) has disappeared without paying for the last month's rent, he also made £700 of international calls and premium rate calls to sex lines which came off my BT phone bill and stole my laptop worth £1500 plus other smaller items.

All I have now is his name and a mobile phone number. When I call him I can tell he is scared because he knows I will probably inflict some serious physical damage on him if I see him... but he refuses to pay anything..

I can't go to the police because it is a council flat that my girlfriend let out illegally... and they wouldn't help anyway. How do I find out this scumbags address ? He refuses to meet me to give me the money. How do I make him pay ?

Does this guy have any evidence that he was paying rent at your girlfriend's flat? Probably not if it was an illegal sublet. Therefore you can go to the police and tell them that he was staying at the house while you were away and has taken your laptop and other belongings without your permission. They will be able to locate him quite easily through his mobile number.
Just don't mention anything about subletting or rent payments. You may have to forget about the phonecalls unless you can prove that he made them (ie if everyone else in the flat was out at the time the calls were made). If you do this though, you may have to go into details about the money he did pay for previous rent as he will claim that was for phonecalls if he doesn't want anyone to know about the illegal rent payments either, which would just land you in it.
As far as the last months rent is concerned, now you are just getting greedy. It's a council flat and you shouldn't be subletting anyway. Any money you have already made on the sublet is illegal and tained and you should just count your chickens that you got anything at all and he didn't wreck the place while he was at it. There's lots of people out there desperate for council accommodation and a shortage of housing, and here you are making money off something that other people have paid for through their hard earned taxes. Try a more honest approach in future and you won't get stuck in this kinda mess again!

You will need to sue him for the money. This will unfortuantely bring up the fact that the falt was rented out illegally. If you track him down and hurt him, tou will perhaps end up in jail for assault. You have a better case suing your girlfriend.

Hire some sort of tracing agency to locate the sucka

Break into his new home when he is away and then set it on fire. If he has any animals, take them out before the fire, and kill them in front of him when he comes home (I would really hate to hurt innocent animals, but you gotta do what you gotta do). He will be terrified and try to run, shoot him in the lower back to paralyze him. Break his arms so he can't move them. Crap in his mouth and then hit him in the face with a baseball bat so till he breaks his jaw and can't spit it out. Steal his wallet with credit cards. Leave him to die.

serves you right for renting it out illegally
What gives you the right to charge someone for something you dont own???????
You are obviously not covered under insurance for tennents so that makes it your problem
good luck getting your stuff back, but i wouldnt put money on it that you'll will ever see any of it again

and FYI, im sure hes the one shitting himself, after all hes the one that got to live rent free, getting his jollys on a sex line AND took your laptop as a leaving present
if anything hes laughing!!!!!!

Since you've acted illegally, you can't go to the law to enforce the contract. If you're only contact is his mobile phone number, you're going to have problems tracking him down - and even if you do, the law's not on your side. If you harass him, threaten him or assault him, you're the one that will do time.

The only way to get him to pay without becoming a criminal yourself is thru legal channels. If you cannot or will not use legal channels, you're out of luck. Ironically your girlfriend's crime has made you a crime victim without recourse to justice.

Find him first . Give him a time limit on repayment . Then ........... give him a sampling of what will happen if he doesn`t pay up ! Make sure there are NO witnesses !

get one of your mates to call him and make out he's been chosen to receive some cash for being a good citizen or something. if he's gullible he may just fall for it. then when you turn up on his door step he may just pay up if he's that scared of you.
