Would young people also be willing to give up the right to vote, the right to drive, and the right to drink at the various ages? I don't object to moving the age up, but I also want to move all the perks.
My experience is that most 18-22 year olds want the benefits of their age, but not the responsibilities, and I think both have to come together.

I think we ought to go back to age 21 as the legal age of adulthood. 18 year olds are not handling it very well. There are huge studies of teenage brain scans that really do indicate that 18 year olds are not adults.

I agree, when i was 18 I didnt know what the hell was going on. But I thought I did. I think the age should be something like 22.

no, if we upped the adult age we'd have the same issues. the first exposure to freedom causes those problems. the age we get freedom is quite irrelevent. we should have 18 year olds have more responcibilty with that freedom.

maybe yes and maybe no -- a lot of kids grow up by themselves -- they only get hellos and goodbyes and food and basics left for them by the parents. they might not be prepared for the world but they had all the preparing they were going to get by the time they were 5. messed up kids don't come from good homes -- just homes pretending to be perfect. remember dr laura and her messed up concept of child raising that has magically vanished from all media since her son showed how her parental skills create sociopaths? kids need realistic parents and realistic goals. few get realistic anything.

No 18 is not too young to be considered an adult, but it is too old to be waiting to take responsibility for oneself.

They only reason they can't do those things is because their parents don't TEACH THEM. Quite frankly, I started going to college when I was 12 years old. I had a credit card and checking account at 14. I could handle myself just fine. My parents actually TAUGHT me to be an adult. Parents are just plain lazy.

If they are old enough to fight and die for your country then they are old enough to be considered an adult.
I was pissed when I served and was under aged to drink...made no sense to me back then.
