My husband works in Lawn & Garden during the spring and summer season and he tells me when he gets home he usually takes his ring off because of all the dirt and stuff he deals with. I have seen his ring when he does wear it and it gets very dirty, it gets really hard to clean.
I am in the medical profession and have to say I usually have to take my rings off also. When I put the latex gloves on my rings can tear them or they can cause harm to my patient. When my hands are wet they can fall some where, and I can lose my rings.
It is completely normal and nothing to worry about. With your husband's job his ring could still fall out of his pocket so I might suggest to him wearing his ring on a necklace or something. I am sure other married men in his same profession do the same thing, plus he is married, nothing I would not want to be ashamed of anyway.

Well....true story. I knew a guy who was an auto mechanic and accidently hit a battery while working on a car and the charge burned his finger badly...almost to the bone. I don't believe the old 'finger caught in an elevator grate and the guy got crushed' story but depending upon his working in an enviroment where his hand could be caught and the ring crushed or as a conductor for electricity I'd say he has just cause for not wearing it at work. It does make sense plus why ruin a perfectly good ring?

I actually lost my wedding band doing household recycling once. I was tossing newspapers into the bin which had a narrow slot (about 10 inches high). Suddenly I realized my ring had gone into the bin along with the papers.
I called the city and they told me to meet the guy with the truck the next morning. The guy helped me sort through a huge bin full of papers and beleiev it or not we found it!
After that when working on stuff like that I always take my ring off and put it in a little compartment in my wallet.

I did not wear a wedding ring after about a month when I was working in the field. My wife saw my ring and it was out of shape, bent, scratched, scarred, etc. She did not like the ring getting abused but more importantly my safety. There are plenty hazards of it hanging on something and ripping a finger off, the ring getting crushed on his finger and having to cut the ring off, electrical issues. There are many hazards involved. In fact, some companies prohibit wearing rings, company policy and safety issue.

At my work, we are required to take our wedding rings off when working with certian types of machinery.
This is a safety issues.
Look on the bright side. He was honest with you and told you upfront. Also you should expect for him to come home some days without his wedding ring on his finger because he was tired and forgot to put it back on.
Dont think if it too much. Be happy that he is trying not to loose a finger.
Good Luck.

My husband is a machinist. He lost his first wedding ring, and he has two cheap replacement rings that he alternates between. (I got him the third because he misplaced the 2nd. The one he thinks looks better; the other is more comfortable) but he always takes his off at work because if it snags on his machine, he could lose his finger. I trust him; a cheap piece of metal around his finger isn't going to determine whether or not he's faithful.

My dad worked with machines for work and he never wore a wedding ring because it can get caught on machines and rip off his finger and hand. If your husband only doesn't wear it to work but wears it all other times, it's understandable that he doesn't want to have fingers ripped off. Maybe he should not wear it to work at all so he doesn't lose it.

I am not male, but, I can tell you my husband does not wear his wedding band. He is a mechanic and has smashed the ring on his finger and had to go to the emergency room to have it removed. I know he loves me and I would rather him be safe on all counts than to lose a finger because of a ring.

Generally, anyone working in an industrial or machining environment does NOT wear rings, as they are a safety hazard. Your husband speaks the truth.

When I use to turn a wrench (Auto mechanic) many years ago, I use to take my ring off when working with electricity (due to possible arcing) - some people take it off because rings and jewelry in general can catch and be a potential work hazard.
Many married men will "tape" over their rings to prevent this as opposed to taking it off.
Just so you know there is a valid reason -
