we can go for a mile or so n then it dies. You start it and runs for a couple of feet then dies. Please give me some advice on what I should do next. we tried carb. clean fuel....etc....

first, make sure you have decent compression. if so, pull the exhaust pipe from the cylinder and clean the exhaust port and check the pipe for blockage.

A two stroke is easier to maintain but it requires more maintenance. It is not necessarily faster than a four stroke. Of course a CR250 will tear up a CRF230 any day of the week. But a CRF 450 will kill the CR250. The newer four strokes are way better than they used to be, the technology has changed drastically. I had trouble keeping up with my friend on his YZ426, I was riding a KX500. In a drag race we were pretty close but around 55 or so I topped out and he kept on going. That same friend and myself both have the same bikes now, Husky TE510's. I never really rode the YZ426 much but in his words the TE will stomp his 426. I know for a fact that my 510 would eat my old KX500 for lunch no question about it. The four stroke is the way to go especially if you want a user friendly trail bike that is low maintenance. There is nothing wrong with a two stroke but the four stroke is just much more versatile and easier to handle.

Check the vent in the fuel tank>Or open the cap and see if it runs>?? Fuel filter clean>

also check the CDI box and the magneto system
