Here is a great website that I found that offers a free list of 2nd chance checking account banks:
http://www.secondchancecheckingaccount.net/
Scroll to the bottom and click on your state and it will give you a list of banks.
Be careful some of these banks charge very high fees because they know you can't go anywhere else.

If you have problems with finding a traditional bank that will let you open an account, another alternative for you is to go with a prepaid Visa or MC card account. It seems that most of them say they aren't checking against ChexSystems. That includes the one that I recently got, which also has no overdraft fees and has online bill pay too. It's at www.readydebit.com. You pretty much get all the same features as a bank account (FDIC insured, direct deposit, etc...) with one exception, no paper checks (but again, online bill pay makes that not too big of an issue). Check it out as an option.

I opened an account with Wachovia (Checking) and ING (Savings), simultaneously I was opening an different type of account with Citibank and they denied the account due to an old item in Chex system. The item was certainly there when I opened the other 2 account as it was a few years old. Anyway I rectified the issue and things are fine now.
But, seems that Wachovia and ING might be worth a try all things considered.

Woodforest is an awesome bank! Give them a try. They pretty much will open up an account for anyone. You will have to pay a slightly higher service charge ($12.00 a month or so), but its worth it.
If that doesn't work for you, try a credit union. Sometimes they are a little more lenient.
Good luck.

Maybe a small bank or a credit union.
You would be smart to take care of whatever is outstanding that put you in the Chexsystem.
