Is it out of loyalty or do they agree? I see it a lot on here. This goes for both LIberals and Conservatives.

The extreme of either philosophy is hard to defend because they tend to be the most inflexible people in the party.

I think a lot of it is out of loyalty, and I think that's sad. For example, I have my own political philosophy that I will always defend, but I will do so with intelligence. I don't know how well I fit in with various political distinctions, but if you want to label me, you'd mostly likely call me a liberal. I condemn the outrageous article published by MoveOn.org regarding General Patreus; that doesn't mean that I condemn everything they do nor that I commend everything they do.

The key is generalizations, which, overall, are weapons of the ignorant. I would never say that all conservatives/liberals or democrats/republicans and christians/muslims are the same, because of course they're not. I instead use qualifiers like "most", "many", and "some". I CAN (but very rarely) use generalizations about the primary conservative/liberal or democrat/republican leadership, as that's a far smaller sample size to discuss.

It's much like the idea that supporting your country means supporting your president. Like me, you can support your country and, because you do, not support your president. The same goes for this situation. You can support certain ideas in a political party and not support the fringe ideas or any number of ideas. Yet people feel that to be truly a part of something, they have to support the whole.

Because there are extremists in both parties. They're generally the loudest, the most annoying and the fellow backslappers.

I defend my own political philosophy. I am a conservative. I don't try to defend anyone else, any party or any philosophy.

Because they can't think for themselves.

Anyone who believes a single party can represent ones' entire views is most likely deluded.

ALL sides have a right to be heard.
I will point out where they cross the line, however.
